Dr. Sheckler graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1984. After graduation, he served two years in the Community Dentistry Clinic in Davenport, Iowa, then was in private practice in Faribault and Owatonna, Minnesota for 10 years. In 1996, Dr. Sheckler purchased the practice in Charles City.

Dr. Sheckler has since also served 16 years on the Charles City Parks and Recreation Board, President of the board in his final year. He has been a member of the Charles City Rotary Club since 1997.
